Here is the thing with this snack – if you’ve eaten Kale before you already have a negative preconceived notion about them. I mean, chocolate on that green, green kale vegetable? That same vegetable people use to make those disgusting green smoothies with? Yep. It’s that kale, alright.
BUT! Believe it or not, it works! Don’t ask me how or why but it works 🙂
Chockalet Kale Chips
- 10 Grams Carbs/Serving
- High in Vitamin A
Now the obvious question…. are they overpriced? Priced at $2.34 an ounce, it costs way less than Alive & Radiant’s other top seller, Quite Cheezy at $4.22 an ounce. So, this snack is certainly a bargain. And they’re quite good for you too.
Difference between Alive & Radiant Chockalet Chip and Quite Cheezy
The major difference to consider between the two offerings, besides that one is cheese flavored and one is chocolate flavored is that the Chockalet Chip bag makes no claims at being raw. While this wasn’t a big detractor in terms of flavor, it was interesting to note that the Chockalet Chips could not be left out. Perhaps it was because they have been dehydrated but after a while, they start to fill with moisture. And let me tell you, there’s nothing worse then going in for a chocolate kale snack and having it actually feel like soggy kale in your mouth.
There is also a big difference in terms of vitamin content with these sorely lacking but that is maybe a tradeoff and something to expect in chips like these which are really more of a treat than a healthy snack.
These may not be worth the cost for some people, especially if you don’t or can’t eat cooked food. But if you look at one or two Chockalet Chip reviews, buyers are very impressed with the fact that these are not just another bland “diet” food.
A Word on Low Carb Chocolate Options
When I first started to eat low carb I had it in my head that I would be saying goodbye to all sweets, especially my favorite: chocolate. After all, chocolate = sugar = junk = carbs, right? Fortunately this isn’t the case. If it was, I would not have been able to stick to this diet as long as I have.
Chocolate all by itself is quite low in carbs. In fact, 100 grams of pure 100% unsweetened cocoa has only about 15 grams of carbs. Keeping this in mind, it’s possible to find a range of delicious low carb chocolate options. Just remember to watch out for sugar content.
What is impressive about the Chockalet Chips
This is the first type of low carb option that I have tried that was sweetened dessert kale type of food. Considering that is what it is, it tastes amazing. Though the Quite Cheezy variety is raw and seems to fight off moisture better, the flavor of this variety is unbeatable.
It is also great to see that these are loaded with organic pumpkin seeds, organic cocoa butter, organic cocoa powder, and organic coconut palm sugar. So, this means that these are high in fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Iron. This is especially a treat considering that for a single serving size of 1 ounce, that only amounts to 150 calories. It has pretty low sodium content as well, at only 25 mg. The primary concern for me while buying a low carb product that contains chocolate is the sugar content. The Chockalet Chips are an excellent choice for flavor considering that there are only 7 grams of sugar per serving.
These Chips got me really liking the brand itself. In fact, the founder of Alive & Radiant, Blessing (yes, that is her name) is actually pretty cool.

What I don’t like
You can’t leave these sitting around. If you open the bag, plan on finishing them relatively soon, not that that’s a problem.
I also mentioned the relatively little vitamin content before and that is true. For example, a serving of these has a listed 25% of your daily Vitamin A dose. That is pretty great considering that these are chocolate. But then again, these are also made of kale. The Quite Cheezy brand boasts an astounding 50% of your daily Vitamin A requirements. I don’t know about you but that is waaay more in line with my expectations.
In addition, the Quite Cheezy variety also contains pretty high levels of Thiamin (20%), Niacin (20%), and Vitamin B12 (8%), among numerous other things. But again, you have to keep in mind that these are a treat and not a substitute meal or anything.
Alive & Radiant’s Chockalet Chip snack tastes pretty good, are chock full of nuts, are vegan and raw, dairy-free, and chocolate flavor. You can’t go wrong with these chips if flavor and health matter, especially with nearly 100 customers giving positive feedback and ratings of 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.
